Intel Pentium G620 - The most popular processor

If we are to belive the list by CPU-World, the Pentium G620 is the most popular processor at the time of writing, surpassing the AMD's quad core P960 and AMD's Mobile P340 and the Pentium P6100 processors.

The Pentium G620 is a dual core processor cloccked at 2.6 GHz. The Pentium G620 is based upon the same architecture as the second generation Intel Core processors. It therefore resembles very closely to the second generation core i3 processor. The most noticeable difference with respect to the second generation Intel core i3 processor is the absence of Hyperthreading.

Pentium G620 has 3 MB of L3 Cache which is shared by the two processor cores as well as the integrated graphics. Aimed at the desktop sectio, the Pentium G620 has a TDP rating of 65 Watts. As all other second genration Sandy Bridge desktop processors, the dual core G620 processor will fit in LGA1155 Socket.

The communication with the chipset is using differential DMI Bus.

The benchmark results of the Intel Pentium G620 is awaited.

The AMD's bulldozer FX-8170 is the highest clocked 8 Core processor that will launch in the last quarter of 2011 / First Quarter of 2012. AMD expects this processor to give a serious challenge to the hegemony of the Intel's 2nd generation Sandy Bridge processors.

The FX-8170's turbo frequency of 4.50 GHz should give tremendous boost to the processes that require high processing power for a short duration of time.

The Bulldozer architecture consists of modules. Each module consists of two cores. The bulldozer FX-8170, for example, has 4 module and, with each module consisting of two cores, there are 8 cores in total. AMD realized that some of the segments require more parallel operations - e.g. the integer processing. It therefore provided an option of two integer cores for each module. Each module, however, consist of only one floating point unit. This scheme increases the overall processing power without increasing the power consumption.

The FX-8170P will not ship with the other FX-series processors that are expected to commence shipment in the week starting June 20th, 2011.

The FX-8170P benchmark results are not available. But we should be able to make some guesses by extrapolating the benchmark results of the FX-8130 when it launches.

- The AMD's E-350 is clocked at 1.60 GHz while the E-450 is clocked at 1.65 GHz - only a slight increase
- The E-450 has higher DDR3-1333 support, which is a bump up from the earlier DDR3-13066 MHz support in the E-350 ( Source: wiki)
- The Integrated Graphics unit has uses newer core and possibly supports that turbo functionality.

- The L2 Cache on both these processors stays same at 512 KB for each of the two cores.

- The GPU frequency sees a bump to 508 MHz in E-450 ( the E-350 has a speed of 500 MHz). More importantly the E-350 will see a turbo action and its turbo frequency will bump to 600 MHz.

- The E-350 does not feature turbo while the E-450 comes with turbo functionality. This should give some amount of the performance boost.

The release of the E-450 is still few months ahead. We will have to wait and see. Apparrently the customers wanted CPU with higher speed ( like 1.80 GHz). AMD may have disappointed on the CPU clock frequency front.

Still, the E-450 promises a good acceptance in netbook and small notebook area where graphics performance is a concern.

AMD FX processors revives

AMD Reintroduced Bulldozer and servers processors with eight cores and advanced computer architecture. This release is intended to compete directly with Intel's Extreme Edition processors.

Faster processors known as Athlon FX were designed for users of the PC enthusiast and gamers the latest generation, where it is necessary to use powerful configurations where possible even the deployment of overclocking settings.

Thus, the first platform to use the title of FX will be named Scorpius, accompanied by the latest series of motherboards with AMD chipset series 9 as well as of the latest graphics cards AMD Radeon HD 6000. These chip Zambezi take up to eight processor cores native.

In addition, the core Zambezi will be based on the famous Bulldozer architecture that was developed last year and targeted as a fundamental part of servers and workstations. Now it has revealed some detail, indicating that these processors will use motherboards with socket AM3 + type.

It also adds AMD processors will Zambezi later with a graphic chip, but the models are launched initially not contemplate. Has its logical, since the type of user who is interested in the product is discarded from the first moment the approach of using discrete graphics.

New AMD chips could lead to lower Intel prices

The chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) could gain share in the desktop Personal Computer market, thanks to its newly launched Llano and Bulldozer chips, unless their rival Intel Corp reduces prices, said Macquarie Research.

The tough competition would force Intel to lower prices which is "an additional risk to our assumption of a stable average selling price" for the second half of the year, said analyst Shawn Webster in a note to clients.

The analyst reduced his price target on shares of Intel at $ 24.60 from $ 26.70, but said the market share of Intel notebook computers is safe even though the design of AMD wins.

"Although we noted evidence of a victory for AMD CPU design for notebook computers, most companies we spoke to expect the market share of Intel CPU remains stable in 2011," said Webster.

The analyst maintained his rating to "outperform the market average" on the company stock.

Intel, whose chips are used in 80 percent of the world's personal computers, said it expected sales of its computer unit to grow as a percentage of "low double digits" this year.

Webster said that higher costs would make Intel's gross margins come down in the second quarter to 61 percent from the first quarter, a figure that should be the lowest for 2011.

AMD Bulldozer Processor eagerly awaited

AMD has true fans throughout the world are eagerly awaiting the new release of the architecture of one of its processors - the Bulldozer.

This new release of the company is scheduled for June and will hit the market with the name of Zambezi. The expected changes are radical when compared with current processors Athlon II and Phenom II . The new processor will have a power similar to or exceeding that of high-end Core i7.

AMD claims that the native 8-core models Bulldozer will hold in the higher ranges,. Turbo mode was improved, version 2.0 includes new instructions such as SSE4.2 and AVX. The latter is one of the innovations of the Intel Core Second Generation.
Zambezi maintain the philosophy to offer AMD processors at prices and high yields and a better price to performance ratio.

The big news is the integration of a new socket, AM3 + to replace its predecessor, the AM3. While it will be backward compatible, it is recommended to update to maximize the potential of new buses. Another novelty, represent the new AMD chipsets called 900 which will have higher memory transfer rate and higher HyperTransport data rate.

AMD, along the lines of the current market, processors will present different ranges and thus of different prices. The higher price would be around $ 300 while the lowest not reach EUR 200.

It is expected that AMD finally takes the technological leap with its BULLDOZER.
with improvements such as higher n. x-cycle instruction, through SSE4.1 SSE4.2,
x watt higher performance through 32nm technology. / architecture
higher yield x thread running through x2 thread x modules,
and the icing on the cake .. increased computational power through AVX mathematical instructions .. advanced instruction vector for double precision of mathematical calculation.
