This Sandy Bridge based processor seems be flooding the notebooks, especially the entry level low cost notebooks. The performance of this notebook is surprisingly good, even when it is clocked at only 2 MHz.
Pentium B940 is a dual core processor that comes with some exotic properties including the integrated memory controller, integrated graphics and fast differential bus to connect to the chipset.
On the down side it does not has turbo boost, does not support hyperthreading and has only 2 MB of L3 Cache. If you are looking for high performance look out for the second generation core i3 and the second generation core i5 processor. Even many of the 1st generation core i3 ( and or course core i5) processors will be faster than the Pentium B940. However, the integrated graphics in the Pentium B940 will still be faster than the integrated graphics of the 1st generation core i3 and core i5 processors.
How good is this processor for my daily work ?
The Pentium B940 is still very fast for daily work, even when it is a stripped down version of the Sandy bridge. Most of the performance improvement is due to the architectural enhancements and the fast DDR3 integrated memory controller. You will not find lacking the processing for your daily work including web browsing, internet, office and video chats. The notebooks with B940 are available in the range of $400 to $550, most of them with Windows 7 OS. An Apple MAC book with lesser processing power with cost more than twice the notebook based upon B940. There is not point in going for Apple MAC.
The only think you need to be careful with Windows based notebook is to install free Anti Virus and Anti Spyware. Search for AVG Anti Virus and install the free version.
