Intel Core i7-3960X Processor
The Intel is coming up with powerful desktop processors through the Sandy Bridge-E family. The Core i7-3960X is one among the special processors that are coming from the mentioned family. These are top notch performance oriented processors come through a latest platform LGA2011, which is successor for the LGA1366. The Core i7-3960X processor is yet to be released and still under test condition from the Intel.
Some of the test results revealed that the latest Core i7-3960X is 47.25% faster than the other Extreme Edition Core i7-990X processors. The improved performance is attributed to the normal IPC increase by the Intel. This is a quad core processor and comes with quad-core DDR3 channel, and latest AVX instruction set for perfect encoding needs.
The core i7-3960X is enabled with HyperThreading and Turbo Boost technologies successfully. The base frequency of the processor is 3.30 GHZ and Turbo Boost technology is successfully overclocking it up to 3.9 GHz. The processors are successfully handling 12 threads at once through the help of HyperThreading facility. The processor cores can access 15 MB of smart cache and comes with the 130 watts TDP.
The upcoming Core i7-3960X desktop processor is expected to be released in the August of 2011, but Intel’s plan to add some more features to the processor such as X79 chipset and some more is delaying its release up to the November of this year. It is also informed that the Intel is making this processor to offer four SATA/SAS 6Gb/s ports instead of eight. All the special features are increasing more interest for this upcoming costly processor release into the market.
The Core i7-3960X is predicted to be a costliest desktop processor and comes with a 4 channel DDR3-1600 memory controller. The processor carries “X” at the end, but still the features are indicating that it belongs to the Intel’s Extreme Edition only.
