Does i3 processor require a graphics card ?

Does a laptop with an i3 require a graphics card?
I have 15.6" screen computer with i3 processor and 2GB RAM, preferably HP. My needs are home based:
1) Social networking - facebook, and emails
2) Gaming (Age of Empire)
3) Storing lots of photos and pictures
4) Watching DVDs
5) Making notes
6) Playing and storing music

Which series would be the best?

Answer - The notebook core i3 processor for example, core i3-330M has integrated Intel HD graphics. You need to differentiate between two types of the Intel core i3 processors - the 1st generation core i3 processor and the second generation core i3 processors. The 1st generation core i3 processors have a moderate level of the gaming performance.

With the first generation Intel core i3 processors you will be able to play only entry level game at low resolution. You will have difficulty playing the game at mid to high resolution

This is not so with the second generation Intel core i3 processors. They have x2 performance as compaared to the 1st generation core i3 processors. So you will have a decent graphics performance.

So how do you differentite between a 1st generation and a 2nd generation Intel core i3 processors ?

Well look at the part number of the processor. A second generation intel core i3 processor starts with 2. For example core i3-2310M is second generation core i3 processor, while the core i3-350M is a first generation core i3 processor.

We expect that this helps you. If you have more question, please feel free to ask compare-processors.blogspot.com

  1. There is some advantage of using a graphics card. With an external GPU, the Processing power gets offloaded to the external GPU card thus saving system memory as well as the processing power.

This will offload the some amount of the stress on the memory bus and should improve overall performance.
