Sony Vaio VPCF236FM/B is prices at $1199 at the time of writing. If you plan to use the features it provides - the Blu Ray Player the Nvidia graphics, the USB 3.0 and, of course a fast quad core processor, the price is worth it.
You will get only an entry level notebook for this price if you choose Apple. On the other hand, if you do not plan to use its features, you may find something decent enough for $600 or so ( shed the Blu Ray, USB 3.0 , nVidia Graphics and take, for example Core i3-2330M processor).
